CHICAGO (TUSEN) – Police say yesterday’s deadly shooting in Morris Illinois appears to have been completely random.
Police say Beverley Lambert, 25, was picking up her 2-year-old child from a babysitter when a 16-year-old armed with a gun shot her twice in the back of the head.
Investigators say the suspect was nearby to get a lift when someone told him to leave. Shortly afterwards he started shooting.
They say he then stole Lambert’s car, sparking a widespread manhunt.
A license plate reader later helped police track down the suspected shooter in Joliet.
“I have never heard in county history of a Grundy County offender committing a murder at the age of 16,” said Grundy County Attorney Josh Helland. “This just doesn’t happen here.”
According to the prosecutor, the suspect has a criminal record.
He is now charged with six murders.
