2023 Ferrari Purosangue – The Prancing Horse Has Evolved

Rumors have been circulating in the car world for years. Would Ferrari, the purist Italian carmaker, follow the rest of the pack and enter the SUV market? Wouldn’t Enzo be turning in his grave upon hearing such news?

Despite the controversy, Ferrari Purosangue is here to stay and impress. It’s no surprise that Ferrari absolutely refuses to call this an SUV. It turns more than 75 years of opposition to the concept. While Enzo was happy with the 4-door Pininfarina concept, he blatantly refused anything tall and wide that didn’t resemble a race car.

Italian lines are flowing everywhere

In short, Purosangue is nothing like the existing Ferrari line-up – marking a turning point in design philosophy and for the company itself. Smooth lines, a consistent aerobridge and a subtle, discreet silhouette are testament to the Italian design tradition that flows throughout Purosangue.

Inside, the dashboard is a work of art like Ferrari has never delivered before. Two lines form a high arc and then meet in the middle, two screens pointing to the centrally mounted climate control. The center console extends far back, interrupted by a small void and then continued only by the rear seat console.

Power – 715 Glorious Horsepower

There is no hybrid or electric powertrain available on the Purosangue. Instead, Ferrari went old-school with a beautiful orchestra of V-distributed 12-pistons good for 6.5 liters and 715 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque. This is not a lightweight pony. Torque starts as early as 2800 rpm thanks to a revised intake and exhaust system. In addition, the Ferrari engineers managed to set the front/rear weight distribution to an almost perfect 51/49.

Is the Prancing Horse taking the right approach by targeting the crowded SUV market? Time will tell. Purists shudder at the idea, but plenty of people are looking for an ultra-luxury SUV that isn’t a Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus or Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
