Destiny 2 has many challenges that arrive each season now, but only one per week that gives you the materials you need to upgrade the Crown of Sorrow in the HELM, in addition to the one you get from the quest. weekly story.
This week, Destiny 2 wants you to run the Sever – Grief mission and defeat it using only Void, Kinetic, or Stasis damage. We had one before with Solar, Kinetic and Stasis, but this one has a catch.
Solar didn’t trigger this issue where you can complete the mission and find that you haven’t completed the challenge. Because…
- The scythe that spawns during the boss fight technically counts as a Sun weapon dealing Sun damage even if you don’t have it equipped in a weapon slot. This will kill the challenge. Don’t pick up the scythe even if Eris yells at you to do so.
- Although this is a more specialized case, the Firefly perk also counts as Sun damage and will kill the challenge. So leave Ace of Spades/Fatebringer at home, because they’re not kinetic enough for that.
During this mission, you box hit things with the big wrench, as it counts as kinetic damage. I’m not sure about shooting explosive barrels, but maybe, uh, try to avoid doing it, if you see any. Hey, if the fake counts, who knows.
It’s quite tricky and I’m glad I was made aware before running it, as I would have been somewhat annoyed to run a full Sever mission for it and not understand why I didn’t pick up the challenge. Which technically makes sense here, these types of elemental challenges are usually about using certain weapon subclasses or loadouts, not do elemental damage that things like the scythe and the firefly nullify as the wrong type of damage.
There will probably be at least one more to come, no doubt with Arc, Stasis and Kinetic, and the same rules apply there. The Solar Week could use the Scythe and Firefly without issue, but the other two cannot.
I’m almost done needing to upgrade my Crown of Sorrow anyway, because all I’m left with is the middle row full of currency upgrades I can’t get rid of fairly quickly, as opposed to umbral energy which is much rarer. But I also just finished my last frame to have all six haunted weapons and four opulent weapons ready to craft, so some of the work is done for me, period. Now back to dungeon farming.
