Just when you thought you had the perfect ride for this summer’s road trip, here is the Airstream Interstate 24X Touring Coach. It was announced today by Airstream, makers of the iconic Airstream® “silver bullet” travel trailers that are loved by purists.

The timing couldn’t be better. There is already a huge demand for motorhomes this summer, as many Americans take their first road trip since the start of the pandemic. There are also many models to choose from, many of them from Airstream themselves. So why are you so excited about Interstate 24X?

Because in Airstream jargon, it is “ready for adventure”. This is definitely not one of those cute mini motorhomes that has a lot of design and little comfort.

The Interstate 24X comes with all-terrain tires and wheels and an advanced power system. It has a 24-foot floor plan, designed for storage, transporting gear – think bikes, kayaks, snowboards, and skis – and also bringing a few friends. The concept boils down to this: the company is for those who want to venture further and stay longer. Maybe much longer.

The Interstate 24X is a Class B adventure van built on the same Mercedes-Benz 3500 Sprinter chassis as the other Airstreams. It is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter 7-speed V6 diesel engine, developing 188 horsepower and 325 lbs. of torque, and a 170-inch wheelbase. The Interstate 24X comes with a 4×4 transmission and six all-terrain tires, and has the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds. This means you can carry your toys around while hitting the backcountry. An ultra-durable protective coating covers the front and rear bumpers of the coach, as well as the sides and wheels.

There is a wet tub on board and a solid-surface kitchen counter with a deep sink and cover, a 2-burner cooktop, as well as a 0.7 cu. microwave pi. The modular table system offers four supports positioned throughout the interior: two at the rear for use with the bench seats (or bed), one at the front where it becomes a desk for the captain’s chairs, or at the back. outside the front door. This is when it jumps from a standing desk from anywhere and can do double duty later as an outdoor food prep station.

The aft sleeping / living / storage area is a versatile, convertible space that can accommodate up to six passengers. Rearrange the Simtex Marine-Grade Carbon Gray cushions and you can quickly convert it to the largest sleeping area of any Class B motorhome. You can also set it up in one of the many versatile configurations, from ‘a large bed to a twin configuration, or divide the configuration into a smaller bed widthwise and additional living space. In other words, it is very customizable depending on your trip.

For storage, the Interstate 24X has an L-shaped aluminum aircraft storage system on the walls, ceiling, and floor allowing you to hang, secure, tie, and clamp your gear. The top storage compartments on each side allow you quick access. There are additional storage compartments under the rear seat.

It also stores a lot of energy, thanks to two 100 Ah deep cycle lithium batteries (LiFePO4), a 30 amp energy management system, a 2000 watt inverter, 300W of flexible, custom solar panels and Military grade home batteries, an additional 100W solar panel for the chassis battery and solar controller, as well as sidewalk and street side portable solar panel inputs to maximize solar harvest. There are USB charging ports and customizable lighting, and it’s pre-wired for Airstream Connected and includes 5G-capable cellular antenna connectivity. Entertainment includes a high performance Resonado speaker system with Bluetooth enabled home radio.

Weather and temperatures can change quickly in nature, and Interstate 24X was designed to handle them. For indoor comfort, there is a 13,500 BTU Quiet Series air conditioner, Timberline hydronic furnace and hot water system designed for harsh climates and high altitudes. For the power supply of a campsite, there is a Cummins Onan 2.5 KW generator with remote and automatic generator start, high efficiency, low vibration and noise. There are a number of lighting options in and around the exterior, including a 42 inch LED light bar.

“Your motorhome is an adventure tool, and when designing this pickup truck we knew we had to stick with this simple idea,” said Bob Wheeler, President and CEO of Airstream. “An Airstream adventure van naturally had to combine the functionality of our Basecamp line with the luxurious amenities you see on the Interstate and the Atlas. In the end, our design and engineering teams were able to create something that exceeded our expectations – a superb, functional touring coach that will get you to the edge of your adventure.

It can be rough and rugged, but the MSRP of $ 213,850 puts the Airsream Interstate 24X touring coach squarely in the luxury class. For more information on the Airstream Interstate 24X Touring Coach, visit www.airstream.com.
