Big E cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on last Monday’s episode of Raw to win the WWE title.
It happened after Bobby Lashley managed to hold onto the title over Randy Orton in the main event. Once Big E cashed in, he beat Lashley for the strap.
Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast reported that the Big E title win was supposed to happen on Raw’s initial draft date, which was slated for late August. However, WWE pushed the date back to October.
During an interview with Bleacher Report’s Graham Matthews, Big E was asked when he found out he was going to win the title as he tweeted teasing him that morning.
Turns out he found out he was going to win the title that day while WWE was still deciding whether to cash it or just tease him, which has been done in the past.
“When I started this loop my intention was that I had to be home Monday morning after the Sunday live event and I realized I was going to Raw at the last minute. It was a bit of a last minute decision. There was also the option to go there and do some teasing and come back later when it’s time to cash in or go back to SmackDown and cash in there. I wasn’t really sure. It was an afternoon that day, decision and it all happened very, very quickly. For me, it was certainly not something that was set in stone for the days and days to come. “
Big E against Lashley in a rematch at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event seems likely given that WWE inflicted a knee injury on Lashley before he lost the title.
