Billy Porter Signs First Look Deal With FX Productions


Laid Star Billy Porter has signed a first contract with FX Productions. Under the deal, he will develop content for FX through his new production company Incognegro with his producing partner DJ Gugenheim.

“Billy Porter was an incredibly accomplished artist before he joined FX’s Laid to deliver the iconic, groundbreaking, award-winning performance that has helped define the series as one of the most memorable and groundbreaking in recent television history,” said FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad in a statement. “Billy has excelled as a writer, director and more – and we’re thrilled to help him produce bold new stories that reflect his vision and unparalleled style.”

“I’m so glad I was blessed to live long enough to see this day. From the day my gayness was my responsibility, to now grounding my work in personal authenticity and power. It’s where we change the conversation. “Whereas Laid was an amazing show that had a profound impact on strengthening my understanding of the importance of telling underrepresented stories and created a clear opening to approach Billy to direct Everything is possible, it was working on set with Billy and watching him direct the cast and crew that left me with the deepest experience,” Gugenheim continued. “I’m thrilled to work with such a visionary storyteller and begin this journey at such a forward-thinking and brilliant television studio as FX.”

Porter won an Emmy for Lead Actor for FX’s Laid, and recently received a third Emmy nomination for the role. Recently, Porter appeared in Amazon’s Cinderellathe second season of TUSEN All Access’ The twilight zone, American Horror Story: Apocalypseand told HBO Max’s Equal. He is ready to play Our son alongside Luke Evans and will direct a queer teen comedy from Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions, titled Be real. He was also tapped to direct an episode of the TUSEN anthology series Accused.

His directorial debut Everything is possiblean initiation film written by Ximena García Lecuona, will be released on July 22 on Amazon Prime Video.

Porter is represented by CAA, Industry Entertainment and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
