Bobby Lashley on his next match with Brock Lesnar: “I always had to prove myself. Let me make it personal.”

Bobby Lashley appeared on “After The Bell” this week to talk about his upcoming match with Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.

“I always had to prove myself. Let me make it personal,” Lashley said. “When Brock got into the UFC, Brock had a gym built out of his house. They sent sparring partners to Brock. They gave Brock a boatload of cash. It’s easy to train when all you have to do is wake up, stretch, get out of the house, go train with your partners and get home. It’s simple to do.

Lashley continued, “When I first started fighting, I was flying to Florida to do training camp for a week. I was flying to California to train with (Josh) Barnett, train with (Daniel) Cormier and all these different guys who were walking around and raising three kids on my own. I was juggling a schedule and it was just me. It was hard. It wasn’t just that I could walk out of my house and have everything handed over to me. This is just another one of those cases where I expect to have to prove myself, and I can prove myself to anyone.

“Over the next few weeks I’ll be showing some of my workout videos so people can see what I’m doing. I kind of shut that down a bit over the last few months, but I’m going to start showing them the kind of training I go through to prepare for a fight like this so people don’t just think, ‘Okay, is Bobby on Brock’s level?’ Bobby was on Brock’s level a long time ago. I’m on a whole new level right now and I think Brock knows that.

“The same way I said I looked into Brock’s eyes and saw Brock had no soul, Brock looked into my eyes and he saw I liked it, and I think that scared him a bit. So when we go in the next few weeks, there will be a lot of training, but when there is a fight, there will be a fight. There are going to be blows I think right now we respect each other, but there will be a time when there will be disrespect and we both have to prove ourselves. So when he says, ‘Bobby who?’, I will say, ‘Brock who?’ because that’s what I want to know.
