India’s Naveen won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Indian wrestler Naveen won the gold medal in the men’s 74kg freestyle final after beating Pakistani Muhammad Sharif Tahir in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. He defeated Muhammad Sharif Tahir at Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Saturday. Naveen sealed the 9-0 win by points against Tahir in the gold medal match and took India’s third gold of the day at the CWG. Naveen was dominant in the first period and did not let his opponent take any points. The Indian grappler took a 2-0 lead in the first period by pinning his opponent.

In the final three minutes, Naveen managed to hold his ground with a powerful hold on his opponent, pinning the Pakistani wrestler into the ring and rolling to walk away with a gold medal.

Earlier in the day, Indian grappler Pooja Gehlot won the bronze medal in the Women’s Freestyle 50 kg category. She defeated Christine Lemofack Letchidjio of Scotland on Saturday at Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B.

Ravi Dahiya took gold, his girl at the CWG, in the 57kg men’s freestyle category in wrestling.


Dahiya sealed a 10-0 victory by technical superiority against Ebikewenimo Welson in the gold medal match.

Vinesh Phogat won the gold medal in the 53kg women’s freestyle category after beating Sri Lanka’s Chamodya Keshani Maduravalage. The match lasted two minutes and 24 seconds as Phogat sealed the win in the fall.
