Exclusive—Rep. Steve Scalise: House Republicans have a plan to save America

In less than two years, President Biden and Chairman Pelosi have enforced an agenda that has devastated our economy and pushed inflation to alarming levels. Far-left socialists have opened up our southern border to illegal immigrants, have made us dependent on hostile foreign nations for our energy, and have strengthened our enemies overseas. Week after week, Democrats are refusing to consider bills on the House Floor that would address the serious problems facing families.

We have a plan. Today, House Republicans are rolling out our “commitment to America,” a bold conservative vision for a prosperous America that will reverse the homemade crises of Biden and Pelosi. Our plan is based on four core principles: an economy that is strong; a nation that is safe; a future built on freedom; and a government that is responsible.

Despite warnings from Larry Summers, the chief economic adviser to both President Clinton and President Obama, Democrats wasted $10 trillion in taxpayers’ money on major government spending. The result is skyrocketing inflation that has reached its highest level in nearly 40 years. Biden and Pelosi’s inflation is crushing hardworking families, pulling $460 out of their pockets each month.

Democrats passed the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act,” but this legislation actually raises taxes on employees and small businesses and hires 87,000 IRS agents to monitor low- and middle-income families, as confirmed by the Congressional Budget Office.

Our “Commitment to America” calls for cutting wasteful government spending and cutting taxes. This makes it easier for companies to lower their prices and allows families to keep more of their hard-earned money.

The Biden administration needs to understand that doubling down on radical climate policies ignores the reality of the world’s current energy needs. Our plan would require the Biden administration to embrace a comprehensive energy strategy that includes petroleum, natural gas and nuclear power that we produce here at home. This would reduce skyrocketing gas prices and rising energy costs for households.

Democrats support abolishing the police and amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Violent crime and murder have spiraled out of control as Democrats cut police budgets, ended cash bails and allowed violent offenders back onto the streets.

This year, the homicide rate across the country is up about 50 percent, and aggravated assault is up 36 percent since 2019.

In 2021, more than 100,000 Americans died from drug overdoses. About two-thirds came from opioids like fentanyl, which cartels smuggle into our country across Biden’s open southern border.

Republicans have a simple solution: stand behind law enforcement and secure the US border.

By providing funding to state and local law enforcement through programs such as COPS grants, we aim to make it easier for law enforcement agencies to recruit the qualified officers they need to keep our communities safe.

By requiring the federal government to secure our country’s borders by renovating the construction of the border walls, migrants will have a harder time entering our country illegally, and drug cartels will not be able to take advantage of an open southern border.

Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans will put parents and children above union bosses.

When concerned parents spoke at school board meetings, the head of the country’s largest school board association wrote to President Biden asking his administration to treat parental involvement as possible acts of domestic terrorism. Days later, Biden’s Justice Department issued a memo equating parents exercising their right to free speech with domestic terrorists.

As millions of children struggled with distance and distance learning, the Biden administration coordinated with teachers’ union leaders — rather than parents — and rewrote critical parts of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s school reopening guidelines. This came after union bosses complained that the guidance was too favorable for opening schools.

By passing a Bill of Rights for parents, parents will have a stronger voice and it will be easier for them to get involved in the education of their children.

Democrats worldwide have led America on a path of decline. President Biden hastily withdrew US troops from Afghanistan, leaving behind billions of dollars in military equipment and allowing the Taliban to take control of the country.

We are experiencing the worst border crisis in American history. More than 3.2 million migrants have been detained during Joe Biden’s presidency.

How can Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas keep their jobs?

Despite the scrutiny of both houses of Congress, Democrats have refused to investigate the failure and mismanagement of our country by the Biden administration. This is a clear breach of duty.

Enough is enough!

Republicans will use the power of congressional oversight to hold the Biden administration accountable.

President Biden and Chairman Pelosi are more interested in carrying out their far-left agenda than helping families in need.

We understand the struggles of the American people and we have a bold conservative plan that will reverse the disastrous policies of Biden and Pelosi and get our nation back on track.
