India’s senior men’s national football team reaped the rewards of their brilliant Asian Cup qualification by moving up two places from 106th to 104th in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday. .

India’s senior women’s national football team also paid off by advancing three places from 59th to 56th.

The Blue Tigers put in a stellar performance in the AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign, where they topped Group D in style as they secured three out of three wins over Afghanistan, Cambodia and Hong Kong .
Chhetri and co. made history as it was India’s first-ever consecutive AFC Asian Cup qualification, due in 2023. They are now placed just below New Zealand (103rd) , who recently lost their World Cup qualifier to Costa Rica.
However, India’s AFC rankings remain unchanged as they sit in 19th place with Iran topping the rankings in first place.
The Blue Tigresses, meanwhile, beat Egypt and Jordan 1-0 each earlier this year in international friendlies.
