Former DHS acting IG pleads guilty to stealing software and databases in fraud scheme

A former acting inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security pleaded guilty Friday to multiple counts related to the theft of government software and databases as part of a scheme to create and later sell a security system. case management to government agencies, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Former DHS Acting Inspector General Charles Edwards pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government property and theft of government property after stealing software from his former office between at least 2015 and 2017 .

Edwards, who court documents say also previously worked in the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General, also stole government databases containing personal information about DHS and U.S. Postal Service employees, the statement said. department press.
