Royal Challengers Bangalore are one of the teams vying to reach the IPL 2022 qualifiers despite star hitter Virat Kohli not being at his best this season. There have been quite a few bright spots for RCB in the IPL 2022, one of them being Captain Faf du Plessis’ contributions to the order. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was also a revelation for the team, winning 21 wickets in 12 matches. And while there have been a few other key contributors for RCB this season, one man has stood out and consistently grabbed the headlines thanks to his performances with the bat, his name – Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik is the franchise’s second-best run-getter in IPL 2022, with 285 runs in 13 games. And those runs have mostly come late innings, with the veteran batter-wicket-keeper playing the role of finisher.
With eight “no outs” against his name, Karthik is averaging 57.00 in IPL 2022, but a more striking stat is his strike rate. The RCB star scored at a strike rate of 192.57.
With such figures, it is not surprising that there is talk of Karthik returning to the Indian fold.
Former Indian outspinner Harbhajan Singh is the latest to lend his support to Karthik.
While speaking during the Gameplan episode on Star Sports, Harbhajan said: “Dinesh Karthik has been exceptional for RCB. He is very good at side shots than his sides, great at taking singles but I think, in the game. Overall he understands his game very well Whenever he has last chances left he makes sure he finishes the match For me if someone has played the best finisher role in this whole IPL , it is none other than Dinesh Kartik.
“If I was a manager I would have given him a ticket to Australia for the T20 World Cup and let him play for India as a wicketkeeper and batsman because he deserves it. And if ever the Indian cricket team needs the best finisher then it should be Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya are a very powerful team Anyway I have gone far in the future but again I Have to say Dinesh Karthik has been amazing this season and I hope he gets the chance to beat a bit sooner at 16 overs is enough for him to finish the game,” added the former Indian cricketer.
RCB hopes Karthik will continue to do the work for the team in the business part of the tournament.
