August 6 – Honolulu Police Department has opened a second-degree arson investigation into a nighttime fire at a self-storage facility in the Kapiolani area.
Honolulu firefighters responded to an emergency call on the 1600 block of Kalauokalani Way at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, they saw smoke billowing from the business, the Honolulu Fire Department said. Firefighters had the fire under control and extinguished it at 12:20 p.m. today.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was deliberately started, according to the fire department.
Honolulu Police said a person broke into the business and set it on fire. No arrests have been made until this morning.
Damage was estimated at $75,000 to the structure and its contents.
