Mithali Raj took another step on Tuesday by completing 20,000 career races with a difficult half century in the 1st ODI between Indian Women and Australian Women in Harrup Park, Mackay Queensland. Mithali’s shot was crucial to India’s cause with most of the other hitters unable to convert their starts. Early in her heats, the Indian captain hit a “big blow” to the helmet of a fierce Ellyse Perry bouncer, but she struggled, hitting a 59th ODI fifty to help India show 225/8 in their 50 overs.

In India’s 15th inning with Mithali at batting of 11, Perry threw a short at the batting star of India. Mithali tried to pull away from the bouncer but it was well directed and came quickly towards her.

Australia won the toss and beat India. The Indians went down to a flyer courtesy of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana but the two fell in quick succession.

Yastika Bhatia and Mithali have stabilized the ship for India, setting up a partnership of 77 for the third window. Yastika fell to Darcie Brown in the 27th, while Deepti Sharma could only manage nine points before she was also sent off.

Mithali fought and clinched another half a century, but was turned off by spinner Sophie Molineux for 61, leaving India in a tough spot at 166 for five.

Hannah Darlington picked up the next two wickets with India in big trouble. But cameos from Richa Ghosh (32 not out of 29 balls) and Jhulan Goswami (20 out of 24 balls) helped India reach a respectable total of 225.
