The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will look to boost their hopes of making the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) qualifiers when they face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Captain Rohit Sharma is set to feature in the lineup after the 34-year-old hitter has rested for the opener since resumption, against Chennai Super Kings, with him returning prematurely from a grueling series of tests in England . All-round star Hardik Pandya, who suffered a problem before the game against CSK, could stay out of the roster.

Against CSK, MI struggled with the bat and only managed 136/8 in a pursuit of 157. Rohit’s expected return could help the team’s confidence against a KKR side that knocked out the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for just 92 points in their previous game.

Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult will lead the bowling attack for MI and will be key to the team’s hopes.

Mi is ranked fourth in the standings with four wins and four losses in eight games while KKR is behind by two points and just as many places.

The team led by Eoin Morgan, however, will fly high after their sensational performance against RCB. Varun Chakaravarthy was the KKR bowlers choice in this game with three wickets under his belt while Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer shone with the bat.
