Delhi Capitals assistant coach Mohammad Kaif, who recently joined preseason camp in Dubai, said the opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second half of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) season will be very crucial for the franchise. “There was a big break after the first half of the IPL, but we are fortunate that most of the players play international cricket regularly. We have a well-rounded squad as there are players with international experience of the cricket and domestic players, who performed well, ”Kaif said in an official statement.

“The first game is going to be crucial for us. Our performance in the first game will give us momentum,” he added.

Speaking of Shreyas Iyer’s return to the Delhi Capitals side, Kaif said the drummer’s return is the biggest advantage for the team.

“There aren’t a lot of changes to the squad from the first half of the tournament, but the biggest advantage for us is that Shreyas Iyer is back in the squad. He’s a fantastic player and he has played well for us the last two seasons. We can’t wait to see him play this season, ”said Kaif.

The assistant coach added that the roles of some of the Delhi Capitals team’s players may change due to the change of venue from India to the United Arab Emirates.

“We played well in India and now we have to continue our performance here in the United Arab Emirates. The roles of some players in relation to the first half of the IPL may change as conditions are different here. We have to start from scratch in the second half of the tournament. We’re looking to get used to the conditions here in the next few days and also play a few practice matches, “said the 40-year-old.
