Kristin Cavallari reveals her secrets to staying healthy while traveling

One glance at Kristin Cavallari’s Instagram and you’ll be swept away in a world of scenic travel. Over the past few months, Uncommon CEO James has skied Colorado, opened a store in Dallas, vacationed with friends in Mexico, and enjoyed some downtime at the luxurious Blackberry Mountain in Tennessee. But despite a busy schedule, the mom-of-three manages to maintain her healthy diet and workout schedule on the road. How? ‘Or’ What? Well, the former reality TV star shared her secrets with me as part of her partnership with protein snack brand Lorissa’s Kitchen and HeyMama (they’ve teamed up to launch Lorissa’s List with a variety of gift options. for moms made by moms). Here’s what the entrepreneur had to say about staying healthy on the road, traveling with kids, and the destinations that inspired his jewelry.

You are always on the go! How do you maintain your healthy workout and diet?

No matter where I go, if it’s a 1.5 hour plane ride, or if it’s 2 p.m., I bring food with me. This means that I pack a meal like a salad. Or, I brought leftovers on planes, made sandwiches, then I bring a ton of snacks like Lorissa’s Kitchen Beef Strips. I was just in Colorado last weekend and brought sandwiches for my kids and a salad for myself. Then, whatever your destination, it’s really about searching online and finding some healthy places. I’m going to sit on Google for hours trying to find great restaurants, cool cafes, and juice bars.

And how about doing your workouts if you don’t have access to a gym?

I really try to train. It might not be as much as me when I’m at home. If there is no gym, there are some good movements you can do without weights, just using your body weight. You can still do lunges, squats, planks, push-ups, etc. I try to get my blood to move at least a few times.

Have you ever bent the rules?

Absolutely yes. I try to follow an 80, 20 year old lifestyle and 80% eat really healthy. The 20% is when I travel or go out to dinner. I eat bread; I drink alcohol. I do it all. You know, I have a lot of desserts. It keeps me sane, and then it makes me want to get back on track.

You now have three children. What’s the secret to keeping traveling with kids sane?

Airplanes are the only time my kids get an iPad. So to them, it’s like this awesome thing. I’ve brought candy on planes before and said, “If you’re good, when we land you can have lollipops” because it takes them longer to eat them. When my kids were younger I would bring like boxes of bandages on a plane because for some reason kids love bandages: open them, put them on. That would give you a solid 20 to 30 minutes.

Your business, Uncommon James, is extremely successful. How does travel influence your business decisions?

This concerns the design of jewelry in particular. I draw my inspiration from everywhere. I was just at Cabo in the pool, and a dragonfly started circling my hat. I was like, a dragonfly would be cool on a necklace. It just comes from really random places. You never know when it’s going to hit you. We went to Italy two years ago and it made me want to do a collection on my heritage. The Tuscan countryside inspired me. Travel plays a big part in it. I love to travel in general. So no excuse to do it!

Is there a place that is still on your wishlist?

The Maldives and Tokyo are two places I’m dying to go. The Maldives are the quintessential beach vacation. He just looks incredibly beautiful and serene. So Tokyo is just the opposite of that. There is so much going on and so much to consider. I think it would be really cool to be immersed in a completely different culture like this.
