Tokyo Olympics winner Lovlina Borgohain and reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen recorded contrasting victories to clinch gold as the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) lifted the 10-medal team trophy at the Elite Women’s National Boxing on Monday championships here. Assam’s Lovlina defeated Arundhati Choudhary of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) 5-0 in the 75 kg final, while Nikhat received a tough challenge from RSPB’s Anamika in the 50 kg clash before the 26-year-old Telangana boxer won the bout in her favor tipped 4-1 to defend the title.

World Championship silver medalist Manju Rani, who led RSPB’s domination on the final day, defeated Tamil Nadu’s S Kalaivani 5-0 in the 48 kg final. Shiksha (54kg), Poonam (60kg), Shashi Chopra (63kg) and Nupur (81kg) were the other gold medalists for RSPB, who also collected three silver and two bronze medals.

Madhya Pradesh, with one gold, two silver and five bronze, and Haryana (two gold and two bronze) claimed the second and third positions respectively.

Young Manipur boxer Sanamacha Thokchom Chanu, who won gold at the 2021 World Youth Championships, also put on an impressive showing to secure the title in the 70kg category by beating Shruti Yadav of Madhya Pradesh 3-2.

Haryana’s Manisha (57kg) and Saweety (81kg), SSCB’s Sakshi (52kg), Madhya Pradesh’s Manju Bamboria (66kg) also took gold medals in their respective categories at the tournament, which saw 302 boxers compete in 12 categories.
