Man Utd asked to sign Fred upgrade as he is secretly a ‘better player’

A former Manchester United midfielder has urged the club to raid Leicester’s ‘sales team’ to sign an upgrade on Fred despite being secretly a ‘better player’.

Fred, 28, is regularly the subject of strong criticism even though he clearly has the faith of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. With names of superstars now littering nearly every department of the Red Devils squad, their central midfielder options are increasingly being scrutinized under the microscope.

Paul Pogba has often excelled in this role and recently forged an exceptional partnership with United target Aurélien Tchouameni with France. However, at the club level, Pogba is regularly deployed on the left with Fred and Scott McTominay the preferred central duo.

Now speaking to online outlet Caught Offside, ex-Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick urged the club to raid Leicester City for Wilfred Ndidi.

The 24-year-old is arguably one of the best starting midfielders in the league. Chadwick certainly believes him, describing him as the “shining light” at Leicester.

Chadwick cited the examples of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante in praising the viability of the movement. Until recently Leicester were rarely able to retain their top stars when bigger clubs called on them.

But despite promoting a raid on Ndidi, Chadwick still trusts Fred. According to the former Red Devil, Fred would look like a “better player” if he wasn’t weighed down by United’s high expectations.

“Ndidi is a bit of a shining light in Leicester,” Chadwick said. “He does this work as a defensive midfielder very well, covers a lot of ground, uses the ball very effectively. He’s not that spectacular in his style but he’s a good passer with the ball.

“I think it’s a bit hard to compare him to Fred, who has done great things for Manchester United but also indifferent others.

“But you put Fred in a Leicester or West Ham squad, somewhere where the expectations aren’t that high, so I think he might look like a top player that you link up with the top clubs like United,” City or Chelsea.

“There has been a lot of attention on that position for United and you imagine a signing will take place at some point. If not in January then at the end of the season.

“Ndidi certainly does the trick and I’m sure if the finances are there he would be a target. Leicester is more of a sales team because we’ve seen people like Kante and Mahrez go to bigger clubs.

“Ndidi certainly seems like a person to watch out for. He has made a very promising start to his Premier League career and I’m sure he’s someone United will have kept an eye on. “

Ndidi was described by the Spanish press as a clear target for Man Utd in January. Although common sense would dictate Leicester would be extremely reluctant to sanction the mid-season sale of one of their most valuable assets.

Fernandes points Man Utd towards Lingard’s resolution

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has apparently made it very clear what Manchester United should do about Jesse Lingard’s current contract situation.

Latest reports suggest the England midfielder will reject a new contract offer at Old Trafford as his current contract expires at the end of the season. Indeed, Lingard has been tipped for a permanent exit over the summer after his impressive loan spell at West Ham last season.

The Daily mail reported on Wednesday that Barcelona and AC Milan consider January deal for the player. It follows West Ham’s interest in a permanent deal, while Leicester and Newcastle are also excited.

But if Fernandes is successful, then Lingard is not going anywhere. Lingard wrote in The Players’ Tribune: “After that, Bruno Fernandes called me the ‘best player in the Premier League’ in an interview with United… me !!

“Can you believe that?!? It’s from Bruno!

“I have a lot of love for Bruno. He left me messages of support throughout my loan. Getting this recognition from someone at his level was just amazing.
