CHICAGO (TUSEN) – A police officer was shot dead, a man killed and a teenager injured on Friday night in the South Shore, authorities said.

Officers responded to shots fired in South Jeffrey’s 7200 block at approximately 10:51 p.m. and found two men, one 25 and one 15, on the ground. While investigating, police heard gunshots in their direction, police said. One of the police officers, a woman, was shot and killed several times by a stranger. Police did not unload any weapons during the incident, police said in a statement.
The officer took herself to hospital and was listed in stable condition, authorities said. On the police scanner, the officer said to the dispatcher, “I’m going to the hospital. I take myself. U of C [University of Chicago Hospital] U of C! I take myself to the hospital. “
After arriving at the hospital, the officer told a dispatcher, “I just want to say thank you to everyone who responded. I’ll be back soon. Have a good night’s sleep and all be safe.

The 25-year-old was shot several times throughout his body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The 15-year-old was shot in the legs several times and was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was registered in fair condition. Police said he was unable to provide further details on the incident due to the severity of his injuries.
Police officers did not fire their guns during the incident, police said.
No one is in custody while Zone 1 detectives investigate.
