Pro-Trump Impeachment Republican Dan Newhouse Goes to General Election

Washington Rep. Dan Newhouse (R), one of ten Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump, is expected to advance to the general election, where he is in a safe place and more than likely to be re-elected.

The The US Express News called the race on Friday, declaring that Newhouse would advance into Washington’s fourth congressional district.

The four-term congressman was virtually tied with Democrat Doug White — both received about 25 percent — meaning they both advance to the general election, where the incumbent will more than likely win in the safe Republican seat.

Newhouse came in 25 percent in the overcrowded primary against a Democrat, who also graduated after six other Republicans split the vote.

The six Republicans split 49 percent of the vote, as Cook Political Report’s Dave Wasserman noted, ultimately allowing him to score by 25 percent since the Republicans were not behind just one challenger.

The third-highest voter, Loren Culp, was four percent shy of making it to the general with just 21 percent. Culp was a Trump-backed former small-town police chief who lost the 2020 governor’s race to Democrat Jay Inslee.

In Washington, a mandatory ballot recount between numbers two and three was less than half a percent and closer than 2,000 votes.

At the time the race for the Republican candidate was called, Jerrod Sessler had about 12 percent, Brad Klippert just over ten percent, Corey Gibson about 3.5, Benancio Garcia about 1.4 percent and Jacek Kobiesa less than half a percent. .
