Proverbial buck in West Bengal stops at the prime minister

It is highly unlikely that all these numerous scams, violence and suppression of democracy in the state would take place without the tactical approval and blessings of the Chief Minister’s Office.

It was famously said “what West Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow”. This was when West Bengal was a hub of industries, academia, arts, culture and economy. After independence, West Bengal was one of the more developed states in India, contributing more than 30 percent to the national GDP. It was one of the most industrialized states, with the highest literacy rate in the country. Today, however, West Bengal has been relegated to one of the most regressive and repressive states in the country, and that has not happened overnight. The flawed policies and priorities of successive administrations of Congress, CPIM and TMC contributed to the demise of this glorious state. When the communists were removed from power, West Bengal was in debt of Rs 1.95 Lakh crores. In the past 11 years under TMC, this debt has risen to about Rs 5.62 Lakh crores, an increase of about three hundred percent.

I am concerned, if concrete steps are not taken to stop this demise, and it is urgent, the situation in West Bengal could become irreparable.

Recruitment scams for teachers: Tip from the ghotala iceberg

Imagine, in a state where the proverbial “मेरी मर्जी के बिना यहाँ भी पर नहीं मार सकता – not even a bird can flap its wings here without my permission” is true, when it comes to the dictatorial way of functioning of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, we are asked to believe that only Partha Chatterjee was involved in the currently unfolding teacher recruitment Ghotala (scam).

This one ghotalas are not limited to just the School Service Commission (SSC), but there have been ghotals before in College Service Commission (CSC) recruitment, Medical College recruitment, and Engineering College recruitment. In 2016, TMC participated in the State Level Selection Test (SLST) Ghotala, and Group C and Group D Recruitment Ghotala. Between 2013-16, TMC indulged in the recruitment of primary school teachers in Ghotala and the recruitment of primary school teachers Ghotala. All of these cases are under investigation by the CBI, pursuant to Hon’ble Calcutta High Court orders.

In the Darjeeling-Kalimpong region, the situation is even worse, there is no SSC or CSC. School and college recruitments get the basics of candidates’ allegiance to TMC, without even conducting interviews. There has also been massive corruption in the recruitment of teachers from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, and the case is also being heard by the Supreme Court of Calcutta.

The fact is that every TMC leader is part of this “Syndicate Raj” that has openly indulged in the ‘Cut-money’ and ‘Tolabaazi’ culture and the looting of public funds. These are not only my claims, but Mamata ji herself accepted this fact and ordered all TMC leaders and MPs at all levels to return the ‘austerity money’ they have extorted from the common people since 2011 before the 2021 parliamentary elections .

The recent revelations of Partha Chatterjee herself allude to the fact that the money recovered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) does not only belong to him, but to many other leaders in the party.

Just imagine, the magnitude of TMC ‘tolabaazi’ culture, that the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina ji had to call Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ask her to help her stop extorting money from her family member by TMC councilor earlier.

TMC has long ceased to function as a political party, but rather functions as a family business, run by the ‘Boss’ and her ‘Nephew’ with iron hands at the top. This is why I strongly believe that the ED has only scratched the surface of the TMC Ghotala racket, and the deeper they dig, the more rot they will find. Because the origin story of TMC itself is based on looting funds from the general public.

Painting ‘Cheat’ Funds

It would not be wrong to say that the foundation of the Trinamool Congress was laid on the carcass of the blood, sweat, dreams and aspirations of the common people, which they plundered through multiple Chit funds such as Sharada, Basil, Rose Valley , I-Core , Alchemist and hundreds of others. More than Rs 30,000 crore of hard-earned money from ordinary citizens was gobbled up by those associated with these chit fund companies. One of the former TMC MPs has named Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as “one of the 12 people who were behind the Sharadha Scams and the ‘biggest beneficiary'”.

There was a time when the prime minister of West Bengal painted regularly and ‘sold her paintings’ for a whopping Rs 1.8 crore. Since this chit-fund ghotalas exposed, she has stopped painting. That in itself says a lot about TMC’s complicity in this ghotalas. CBI has now learned that her painting has been bought for Rs 1.8 crore by none other than chit fund king-pin Sudipta Sen, which they claim could be part of TMC’s larger money laundering operation.

While millions of families in West Bengal were destroyed because of these chit funds, it is established that CM Mamata Banerjee met with Sharada’s Sudipto Sen, Gautham Kundu of Rose Valley at Delo’s tourist lodge in Kalimpong, ahead of the 2014 general election, and aspired to become the Prime Minister using funds and clout generated from these Chit funds.

The buck stops with Mamata

There is not a single sphere from which TMC has not raised savings. Be it Sharada, Basil, SSC, CSC, Coal Scam, Mining Mafia, GTA Ghotala, Metro Dairy, HIMUL, Civic Police, MGNREGA, PMGSY, PMAY, PHE, PWD, Health Sector or Education, TMC leaders have public resources appropriated with impunity. So much so, that they have even appropriated emergency funds sent by the central government to help with natural disasters such as Hurricanes Amphan and Aila.

It is highly unlikely that all these numerous scams, violence and suppression of democracy in the state would take place without the tactical approval and blessings of the Chief Minister’s Office.

There is every reason to believe that the rot in West Bengal starts from above, which is why the only way to end this steady demise of a once great state, and the malicious growth of extortion, is, political terrorism, arson murder, rape, austerity, corruption, tolazais to bring everyone involved in these activities to justice.

It is for these reasons, I believe, that it is time for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to resign, for moral responsibility towards the appalling state of affairs, and for her inability to provide a good, clean and fair government. which is what West Bengal desperately needs.
