‘Ready to step down, any Shiv Sainik can become a CM’, says Uddhav Thackeray as political crisis escalates


“I will leave if even a person or MP is against me,” Maharashtra CM said. The speech came as Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde claimed he had enough support to overthrow the government.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Wednesday he was “ready to step down” as the rebellion in Shiv Sena, led by Chief Eknath Shinde, continued to escalate.

Thackeray added that it is shameful for him that “even an MP is against him”. “If you (the deputies) say, then I am ready to leave the position of CM. It is not a question of numbers but how many are against me. I will leave if even a person or a deputy is against me. is very shameful for me if even a single MP is against me,” he added.

Thackeray also said he was ready to step down as leader of the Shiv Sena.

“Some people say this is not Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena. They should say what Bala Saheb’s thoughts were. This is the same Shiv Sena he was in his ‘Hindutva’ time is our life,” he declared.

Shortly after Thackeray’s speech, the CMO of Maharashtra tweeted a list of cabinet decisions made by the CM on Wednesday.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition government led by Uddhav Thackeray is considering dissolution after Shinde claimed he had enough support from MPs to topple the government.

The MVA comprises the Shiv Sena, Congress and the NCP.
