Shamshera: Ranbir Kapoor reveals how he convinced makers to cast him in a double role


Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor actor Shamshera will premiere on television on Sunday, November 27. Karan Malhotra’s direction, backed by Yash Raj Films, was Kapoor’s first film in which he played a dual role. In the film, Ranbir played rebel Shamshera and his son Bali.

The actor revealed that the double role was not initially part of the plan: “When I was told the film, it was not offered to me as a double role. But when I heard the story, my immediate reaction to Aditya Chopra and Karan Malhotra was to let me play the father too, as the character was really different and interesting,” said Ranbir.

Shamshera was released in theaters on July 27 and opened to mixed to negative reviews. The highly anticipated film flopped at the box office. However, fans of Ranbir appreciated his acting performance and even defended him on social media.

Weeks after its release, director Karan Malhotra talked about the film’s failure. Karan shared his feeling on Twitter in a lengthy post saying, “My dearest Shamshera, you are majestic just the way you are. It’s important for me to express myself on this platform because here is where all the love, the hate, the celebration and the humiliation exists for you “I want to apologize in an unimaginable way for letting you down these past few days, because I couldn’t handle the hatred and anger.”

Karan agreed that he ignored his film due to its dismal performance. “My withdrawal was my weakness and there are no excuses for it. But now I stand here, hand in hand beside you, feeling proud and honored that you are mine. I will face everything together, the good, the bad and the ugly.” He continued, “A huge shout out to the Shamshera family, the cast and crew of Shamshera. The love, the blessings and the care that has been showered upon us are the most precious and no one can take that away from us. #Shamsheraismine #Shamshera.” Shamshera premieres November 27 at 8 p.m. on Star Gold.
