August 5 – A skateboarder was killed early Wednesday morning when he was hit by a 21-year-old driving a vehicle on Third Avenue.
Longmont Public Safety spokesman Robin Ericson said police were called at 1:27 a.m. Wednesday for the accident on Third Avenue between Lashley and Alpine Streets.
Police believe the driver, a 21-year-old man from Longmont, was heading west on Third Avenue when he hit a 22-year-old man on a skateboard.
The skateboarder was not at a designated intersection or crosswalk and it has not been established at this time in which direction he was traveling. Police believe the skateboarder was driving in the left-hand lane facing westbound traffic when he was hit.
The Boulder County coroner has not yet publicly identified the skateboarder, but the Longmont Police Department said he was visiting from out of state.
Ericson said several factors are under investigation, including the speed of the vehicle and possible drug or alcohol aggravation by both parties.
No charges have been disclosed at this time.
