I sincerely hope you’ll hear this from me a lot more: honor where it’s due!
I don’t trust Kevin McCarthy further than I can throw him, which is only about 7-8 yards as I’m freakishly strong, but it’s important not just to attack politicians when they’re wrong, but to praise them when they’ you’re right.
For some reason, famed economist James Buchanan gets credit for his Public Choice Theory, which essentially states that politicians, like all people, also pursue their self-interest. Common sense for most people, but important nonetheless and largely ignored on the right.
If you want politicians to do what you want, you need both roots and the stick. Those of us with a little more mental firepower recognize this as operant conditioning.
In any case, Speaker McCarthy deserves credit for not only giving the Russiagate conspiracy theorists the boot of the House Intel Committee, but perhaps more importantly, for absolutely crushing a goofball reporter who tried to nag about it.

Fortunately, Speaker McCarthy seems to have learned from the Trump playbook — that is, regular “journalists” are not reporters, but transparent stenographers for the DNC and Langley. They are not gullible actors who just look out for the people.
Quite, very much the opposite, I’m afraid.
To wit: In a confrontation with a reporter, who of course tried to “what” by asking about Republican George Santos, who seems even more impressive than Frank Abignale, Jr., McCarthy was asked:
“Since you have direct power over who is on the intelligence committee, and so do you… (unintelligible) you said lying to us is something that means you should be removed from the intelligence committee, why isn’t it… (something unintelligible about George Santos…” muttered the reporter.
You can see McCarthy just getting ready and replying that Santos was elected by his district, before being cut off again.
Then the new Speaker intervened: “Let me be very clear and respectful to you. You asked me a question. If I answer, that’s the answer to your question. You don’t decide whether I answer your question or not, okay? In all perspectives. Thank you.”
Over the screams of other reporters, McCarthy continued:
“No, no, let’s answer her question. You just asked a question, I will be very clear with you. The Intel committee is different. You know why? Because what happens in the Intel committee, you do not know. What is happening in the Intel committee, of the secrets going on in the world, other congressmen do not know. What did Adam Schiff do as Intel Committee Chairman? What Adam Schiff did was use his power as chairman and lie to the American public, even the Inspector General said so.
He continued: “When (former Rep) Devin Nunes released a memo, he said it was false. When we had a laptop (Hunter Biden’s laptop), he used it before elections to be political and say it was false, and he said it was the Russians, knowing otherwise. When he knew the information.
“If you talk to John Ratcliffe, DNI, he came out ahead of time and said there’s no information to prove that. And he (Schiff) used his position as chairman, knowing he has information that the rest of America doesn’t, and lied to the American public,” McCarthy noted.
From there it only gets better. McCarthy also raised other crucial points, but you’ll have to look, because TUSEN is a small independent outlet and they don’t have staff available for translations.
Holy shit. Kevin McCarthy just completely blasted a reporter who questioned his decision to remove Schiff and Swalwell from the Intelligence Committee.

A new day? New GO?
As I said before, McCarthy deserves it praise nailing the fake news with both barrels. If you want him (and others) to continue this behavior, praise them. Show them some positive reinforcement.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m a total cynic. I don’t believe for a second that McCarthy and his GOP will actually fulfill the more concrete promises. But that’s a time for another day.
On this day, I’m going to celebrate that a politician whose name isn’t Donald Trump or Ron Paul is doing the right thing.
I suggest you do the same. At least, if you want to see more of this.
