Tottenham look set to take a heavy blow for their hopes of increasing their firepower in 2022, with a leading striker set to sign a new deal with his current club.
The leader of Fiorentina Dusan Vlahovic has become one of the best young strikers in European football. He was targeted by Spurs throughout this summer’s transfer window as doubts surrounded the future of talisman Harry Kane, although there were suggestions that Nuno Espirito Santo actually wanted the 21-year-old to partner with Kane in a front row two.
The Serbian scored 21 goals in 37 Serie A games last season and started this tenure the same way. Vlahovic has scored three goals in four outings, including a brace against Atalanta.
The young striker is in high demand as he has now entered the final two years of his contract. But that’s something La Viola is looking to rectify quickly, with a revival on the cards.
Tottenham have retained their interest and reportedly consider making another offer in January.
However, this latest development appears to have put a damper on a Spurs side who have only scored three goals in their opening five league games.
Vlahovic is valued in the £ 50million range. But that figure will almost certainly increase if an escape clause is inserted into the player’s new deal.

Tottenham warned of North London derby
Meanwhile, Paul Merson compared Chelsea’s cruise to a win over Tottenham to a win over an Under-10 team, following their 3o triumph.
Spurs got off to a good start in Sunday’s clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Chelsea dug. In addition, the introduction of N’Golo Kante by visiting manager Thomas Tuchel in the second half was a game-changer.
Chelsea scored all three goals after the break, with center-backs Thiago Silva and Antonio rudiger nets.
Rudiger’s strike went deep into stoppage time, but the Blues seemed settled after Kante’s deflected strike to bring the score to 2-0.
The Spurs have not won in three games in all competitions. Moreover, they have not scored any goals and conceded six in their two Premier League appearances during this series.
Ahead of Sunday’s North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham, Merson said the Gunners – who have now won 1-0 twice in the race after three consecutive losses – will not lose the game.
“I think it’s a big game next weekend against Tottenham. It’s always a big game anyway, but I think it’s getting even bigger ”, the specialist Recount talkSPORT (September 20, 9:55 a.m.).
“I did something with Jamie [O’Hara] a few weeks ago about the Arsenal game, Tottenham and he absolutely flushed me out.
“I said even then that Arsenal lost three games and Tottenham won all three… there is no way Arsenal will lose this football game, I don’t see Arsenal losing the game.
“There is a lot of pressure now on Tottenham. Yesterday’s game at the end was a bit like watching an Under-10 team play against a men’s team. It was shocking.
