Toyota Unveils New Cars With Advanced Driver Assistance Technology


TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp on Thursday unveiled its new Lexus and Mirai models in Japan, equipped with the company’s latest advanced driver assistance that enables safe driving and wireless software updates.

The automaker’s new driver assistance technology, or Advanced Drive, is an autonomous Level 2 system that assists drivers in driving conditions such as keeping the car in its lane, maintaining distance from other vehicles , change lanes on highways or other roads reserved for motor vehicles. .

“This is really an important first step in our journey towards software development first,” said Toyota director James Kuffner, who is also the head of the Toyota Woven Planet research unit, during an online briefing Thursday.

The Lexus LS luxury sedan goes on sale Thursday for a cost of 16.3 million to 17.9 million yen, while the second-generation Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car will be offered later on April 12 at a price of between 8.4 million and 8.6 million yen.

The new models will also be equipped with an advanced parking assist system that allows drivers to park safely.
