Trump admitted Kevin McCarthy “some” responsibility for the 1/6 attack

Minority House Leader Kevin McCarthy says Trump admitted some responsibility to him in the 1/6 attack.

TUSEN reported:

“I say he has the responsibility,” McCarthy said on KERN, a local radio station in Bakersfield, Calif., On January 12 of last year. “He told me personally that he had some responsibility. I think a lot of people do.

McCarthy shared a similar account last year with House Republicans on a private conference call a day earlier, according to multiple sources on the call. That call was reported at the time, but TUSEN got a more detailed reading of the call on Thursday.

“Let me be clear with you and I have been very clear with the president. He bears responsibility for his words and actions. No ifs and buts, ”McCarthy told House Republicans on Jan. 11, 2021, according to a reading obtained by TUSEN from a source listening to the call. “I asked him personally today if he was responsible for what happened. If he feels bad about what happened. He told me that he had some responsibility for what had happened. But he must recognize it.

McCarthy doesn’t want to tell the 1/6 committee what he knows

Kevin McCarthy can testify before Committee 1/6 that he heard Donald Trump take responsibility for the 1/6 attack. The committee already has proof of McCarthy’s statements, but it likely has several follow-up questions about his conversations with Trump that the parliamentary minority leader is unwilling to answer.

McCarthy can testify directly to Trump’s mental state, and his testimony could be powerful evidence in a Justice Department criminal referral against the former president.

Kevin McCarthy knows a lot more than he lets on, and Committee 1/6 gets him stuck in a no-win situation.
