Twitter expected to launch long-form content sharing feature soon: report

Twitter Notes – a feature allowing users to post long-form content on the platform – has been tested and will launch in the coming weeks, according to a report. The reported development was previously known as Twitter Articles. This would allow users to express their ideas in detail and share in-depth thoughts on the platform. However, Twitter already has features including the ability to create threads to go beyond the given word limit with tweets and write longer content on the platform.

Before its public launch, the Twitter Notes feature is being tested with some users, reports TechCrunch. It was originally spotted in February as Twitter posts by app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

The feature would allow users to write in-depth articles on the platform which could be saved as a draft or shared with the public.

App researcher Nima Owji shared screenshots in April suggesting users would have the option to share their long-form posts with followers or link to them to share on the web.

Twitter declined to comment on the issue, although the company told TechCrunch it would share updates on the feature “soon”.

In 2017, Twitter doubled the word limit per tweet on its platform to 280 characters from the previous 140. The company also introduced chat threads on the platform at the time to allow its users to share thoughts longer than the given 280 character limit.

These moves, however, have yet to help people looking to share in-depth content on the platform. Some users have overcome the limitation – to some extent – by sharing their notes from a third-party app in the form of screenshots.

Twitter may address these users by introducing Notes as an integrated feature in the future.
