Vinod Shantilal Adani, businessman and older brother of Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, has become the richest non-resident Indian (NRA) according to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List by 2022. Vinod Shantilal Adani is also the sixth richest Indian on the list with a wealth of Rs 1.69 lakh crore.
This year, 94 NRAs have reached the list of richest Indians. While Vinod Shantilal Adani has emerged as the richest NRI, the Hinduja brothers have secured the second rank with wealth of Rs 1.65 lakh crore. Among the NRAs, 48 from the United States were on the list.
Jay Chaudhry is the richest NRA living in the US with a total wealth of Rs 70,000 crore.
Vinod Shantilal Adani lives in Dubai and handles commercial matters in Singapore, Dubai and Jakarta. He started a textile company in Mumbai in 1976 and later expanded it in Singapore. Gautam Adani’s older brother then took his business to the Middle East after moving to Dubai in 1994.
The businessman has added Rs 37,400 crore to his net worth in the past year, which is an increase of 28 percent. This means that Vinod Shantilal Adani earned an average of almost Rs 102 crore last year. He has also moved up two places in India’s top 10 wealthy list to secure sixth from his eighth rank last year.
Vinod Shantilal Adani’s wealth has increased by 850 percent in the past five years. While the wealth of Gautam Adani and family was 15.4 times higher in five years, Vinod Shantilal Adani and family became 9.5 times richer.
Gautam Adani topped the Hurun India Rich List 2022 for the first time with a wealth of Rs 10,94,400 crore. According to the list, he added Rs 1,600 crore per day in the past year.
