Virat Kohli has resigned as India’s Test captain. He announced the decision on his social media accounts just a day after India lost the Test series to South Africa after their third Test defeat in Cape Town. The move also comes just a month after BCCI coaches decided to drop him as the team’s captain at the one-day internationals. Kohli himself had decided to step down as T20I captain at the end of India’s ICC T20 World Cup campaign.
Here is his full statement:
“It has been 7 years of daily hard work, toil and relentless perseverance to take the team in the right direction. I did the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to stop at some point and for me as India’s test captain, it’s now. There were a lot of ups and also some downs along the journey but there was no there’s never been a lack of effort or a lack of conviction. I’ve always believed in giving my 120% in everything. I do, and if I can’t do it, I know it’s okay. is not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team.”
